Friday post: creativity and how we see things differently

I have done some work on this but I am yet to figure out who the creative geniuses are behind this particular video. I love it because it always makes me think about how one person's perspective can be so different from someone else's perspective – in this case literally creating the difference between clarity and nonsense.

It also makes me reflect that what we think is obvious – that's a staircase, that's an abstract sculpture – may actually be something completely different.

Of course you can just enjoy the video for what it is. I have, however, been told at different times about what leadership consists of: it's an aura, it's the force of an individual personality, it's having a vision, it's telling people what to do. Those versions of leadership don't align with mine at all.

I don't think leadership is something magical or mystical that a few people have.

Leadership is something that I have seen people learn and develop. They build skills in working with others. They take care of the needs of the group. They run experiments and iterate on their ideas – sometimes hundreds or thousands of iterations. They enlist others in a collaborative way to accomplish something that they could not do themselves. After some time, we see leadership behaviors grow and applied to new situations and to larger groups of people. Leadership spreads to others who carry on these great leadership behaviors.

I hope this video inspires you in some way, as it did for me.  Enjoy the weekend!
